All About Mattresses

Are you considering buying a mattress online? You are not alone. Many people start their search for best mattresses online and some ultimately make their purchases there too. The deals are everywhere but before you make your final decision – pause.

There are a few things you should know before you enter your credit card number or Paypal account information. This applies to discount mattress centers as well as popular mattress stores.

Know the shipping details.

Don’t assume that your mattress purchase is fully covered and replaceable at no cost if it arrives damaged.  Some online retailers will pass the cost of any damage that occurs during shipping on to you.

Some mattress sets or foundations may not be available for home delivery.  If that’s the case then head to your local brick and mortar store.  Ask for the online deal.

Understand the return and/or exchange policy.

You may find that many mattress retailers will not pay the cost for returns or exchanges.  Shipping and other return charges almost always go to the consumer.  This is fairly common.  Just make sure you read the fine print.

Call the toll free number and speak with a live person.

You see the number listed on the website, but have you ever called it just to make sure someone will actually answer?  For the reasons listed above, you should make sure that you have someone you can speak to if you have issues with returns, exchanges or questions about shipping.

Confirm that the mattress has not been recalled.

Unlike brick and mortar retailers who usually pull recalled products and post notices regarding recalled products, a few discount online retailers may not even be aware that a product they are selling has been recalled. Most do, but it is your safety we are talking about here so double check just to be sure.

The last thing you want to do is end up with a mattress that is dangerous for you or your family members. You can find out if a product has been recalled or banned by visiting the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website or calling their hotline at 1-800-638-2772.
