All About Mattresses

Mattress pillows are arguably the most obvious purchase for your mattress (next to actual bedding) and should be chosen with as much care as your mattress.  As with mattresses there is quite a selection.  Those in the know have found their own slice of heaven and have kept it hush hush – until now.

 Your neck and head require the support of a pillow to avoid stress and strain on these areas.  It also helps to keep the spine aligned.  If you find yourself using more than one pillow to get the right fit for your head and neck then you might benefit from some of the most popular and applauded mattress pillows around. 

Let’s take a step beyond the standard polyester fibers that you will find in most of the pillows you see at your local department store.

Buckwheat is not just for eating.  It has been used as the fill for pillows for thousands of years in the Orient.  It is actually the buckwheat hulls that fill buckwheat mattress pillows.  These hulls shape to the pressure put on them, i.e.; head and neck. 

An example of a buckwheat pillow is the Bucky Buckwheat Bed Pillow.  One caution.  Most of these pillows are not machine washable so you will need to use a pillowcase to keep it clean.

Polyester fibers, I can understand but buckwheat?  Hey, people swear by it.

Lastly, we have the goose down.  Now these pillows are not new but the luxury surrounding them is being improved on a regular basis.  First, let’s understand that goose down basically means the really soft fine feathers of a goose.  Talk about soft.  

Now add an obscene amount of thread count and make it machine washable.  Some have warranties that outlast some mattresses.

Whichever mattress pillow you choose, be sure to read the care instructions.  You don’t want to do anything to void the warranty.

P.S. Be sure to purchase similiar pillows to match the style of bed. If you are considering a visco elastic foam mattress, similiar pillows might be in order.
