Top 3 Reasons Mattress Sets are Better
Have you ever thought that you could save money if you just purchased the top mattress and left the box spring or support at the store? You are right. You can save money but cost you a great deal of aggravation in the process.
Here are the top 3 reasons mattress sets are a better option than purchasing the top mattress alone.
1. Mattress sets are made for each other by design.
Most mattresses are designed – among other things – to keep your spine and neck aligned while you sleep thereby providing the greatest comfort possible. Now, many manufacturers offer differing opinions on how to achieve this level of comfort, i.e., pillowtop, memory foam, innerspring, etc…What they do agree on is that the boxspring or mattress foundation is specifically designed to give you the maximum support.
Think of it this way. When you test drive a mattress in a store, you are testing out the set. You can bank on the mattress not feeling exactly the same way when you get it home and put it on your old boxspring.
2. You want the warranty to mean something.
The warranty may be compromised if you do not purchase the full set. The argument here is that the mattress did not perform as promised because the consumer did not provide the mattress with the correct foundation to allow the mattress to perform as designed. Some companies might even argue that the foundation you used contributed to the breakdown of the materials used in the mattress thereby making it less durable than advertised. Read the fine print.
3. Safety.
Is safety a feature you look for in a new mattress? If not, you should add it to your list. According to a report published by the Consumer Product Safety Commission in 2004, mattress fires are linked to nearly 500 deaths and 2,220 injuries a year. You are simply not protected to the extent you would if you purchased a mattress set. The level of fire resistance characteristic of the specific mattress you are considering almost always applies to the mattress set.
Note: A visco elastic foam mattess is usually sold alone without a box spring.
