Warning: Don’t Void Your Mattress Warranty
Congratulations on the purchase of your new mattress. Now don’t screw it up! The last thing you want to do is void your mattress warranty.
You never know what might happen after you bring your new slice of heaven home so you must be prepared for anything. That’s what warranties are for. Let’s make sure that you can make use of the warranty should anything happen.
Register your purchase at the manufacturer’s website. This is often not required to validate the warranty but is a good idea as you have most of your information stored in case you do need to make a claim.
Keep your receipt in a safe place. Since you probably spent anywhere from several hundred dollars to several thousand for your mattress, this is a receipt you want to keep in a safe place. The receipt can serve as your proof of purchase. It also states where you purchased it and the price. These items are often required before manufacturers will even begin the warranty process.
Make sure you do NOT remove the “Remove Under Penalty of Law” mattress tag. You must have this tag to obtain information used to register your mattress and claim any benefit under warranty. This tag includes important information like the serial number, date of manufacture, and where it was manufactured.
Make sure you provide proper support for your mattress or foundation. This can take the form of purchasing a mattress set to using slats or a combination of both. This is usually spelled out in the set up and care instructions. Failure to adequately support the mattress or foundation can invalidate the warranty.
Just to be on the safe side, you should consider always using a quilted mattress pad on the mattress to avoid stains. Some manufacturers state that soiling can invalidate the warranty. You should be sure to read the care instructions for you new mattress. If you have a hard time getting to sleep at night, read the warranty information too. You will find that there are limits to the warranty. There are some things that are simply not covered.
